Urban Education Service & Mission Trips

Combining the Urban Education day with service truly puts education into action. Groups seeking one-day experiences can add service time in DenUM's food bank to their Urban Education Days.

Other groups choose to commit to several-day experiences. In addition to offering urban education through the Game of Life poverty simulation activity, the Food Stamp Lunch Challenge, downtown walking tours, and a hunger meal. Participants also have the opportunity to volunteer at over 20 non-profits throughout the Denver area that specialize in a multitude of services including, food and serving meals, light construction, painting and maintenance, working with children and the elderly, and warehouse work. Participants will be drawn out of their comfort zone and allowed to look at an unfamiliar world.

Work days last from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., depending on the site. At least one evening will be spent with an Urban Education speaker. Other opportunities may be scheduled as they are available. For a detailed sample day click here.

The cost for a weeklong experience is $165 per participant, or $100 per parcipant for a half-week experience. This covers scheduling of service, education opportunities, and lodging. It does not cover the cost of recreational opportunities, transportation (no charter buses, please) or food (housing sites have kitchen facilities).
