Plan of Events
2:00 p.m. - Hauling and Sorting Food! This year group sorted their food collections outside of Park Hill United Methodist Church in the parking lot before they go into the building. Reports were that this process went smoothly!
How is the weather?
Thanks to the generosity of the community, Food For All gathers more food than DenUM is able to distribute during Thanksgiving week.
In 2005, Food For All events gathered 16,000 pounds of food.
Any extra food received helps DenUM fulfill emergency food needs through the Fall and Winter seasons. Many more will need help this year because of rising heating bills. Extra food was taken back to DenUM immediately after sorting.
2:30 - Rally Time! The youth rally took place in the basement Fellowship Hall at Park Hill. This was a time to pump the youth up with music from Big Fish Story, the Holy Pretzels, and Lakewood UCC Youth Orchestra, and explain to them why what they are doing is so important. Speakers to emphasized the need in Denver through stories of their own experiences. Lastly, we explained the packing process.
3:30 - Packing of the Boxes! Each youth will received a box and the name of an individual or family who would receive a DenUM Thanksgiving box this year. Youth then proceeded to the gym to pack their box. This was an excellent time for them to reflect on the difference they made in someone’s life this Thanksgiving.
4:00 Back to the Fellowship! After packing, snacks and a short send-off.
