Events
DenUM's events bring the community into relationship with those DenUM serves - providing opportunities for volunteerism, for education, for advocacy, for interaction, and for transformation.
January-April: Lenten Activities
Lent is a special time in the Christian calendar, and an ideal time to reflect on our connections with those who are less fortunate. Let DenUM partner with you to make this season especially meaningful for your community this year! Contact DenUM's Community Relations Director (303-350-5066) to learn more about DenUM Hunger Banquets, booking client speakers, urban retreats (Urban Education), service projects, legislative advocacy and more!
June: Hunger Awareness Day
DenUM teams up with Food Bank of the Rockies to mark another year in which hunger remains a reality for residents of the Denver metro area. A family with one parent, one pre-schooler, and one school-aged child in Denver is considered to be at federal poverty level if they earn $17,170 or less but in order to actually be self-sufficient (able to meet all of their basic needs for food, shelter, child-care, transportation), that same family actually must earn $41,523. (Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute: The 2008 Colorado Self-Sufficiency Standard - A Family Needs Budget, March 19, 2008)
One in five Colorado families in poverty frequently miss meals.
October: World Food Day & Hunger Banquets
World Food Day reminds us again of the imbalance of hunger and abundance in our community. Please consider sponsoring a Hunger Banquet through your organization to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger. DenUM can help! Please click here to request more information.
November: Food for All
Food for All provides staple foods for families who receive Thanksgiving food boxes through DenUM. In 2007, 263 youth participated in collecting food and packing 315 Thanksgiving food boxes that served 746 men, women, and children!
